Dogfish Inn Sweet bedroom

Friendly lodging for beer-loving couples.

Dogfish Inn is not your classic romantic destination. But we think beer-loving couples will enjoy the friendly vibe of this funky inn near the beach. The 16-room property looks and feels like a very cool motel.

Most of the rooms are stretched across two floors with an open, shared porch, fronting the parking area. But couples can secure more privacy by booking the very Sweet suite which occupies most of the upper floor in a separate building, above the main lobby. The Sweet includes two large bedrooms with queen beds, a bathroom with a ginormous walk-in shower, and a large living room with kitchenette.

Behind the lobby is a fire pit where you can kick back after exploring the quaint town of Lewes. If the weather is nice, get a bike and ride to the boardwalks and beaches of Cape Henlopen State Park.

The Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs West Virginia

The Greenbrier in West Virginia is an opulent destination for romantic getaways from Washington DC for couples.
The Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia

Historic opulence in the West Virginia mountains.
Distance + Time: 300 miles, 4 hours

If you've ever seen a picture of The Greenbrier, you know the historic property delivers opulence on a grand scale. The vibe at Greenbrier is more formal (read the dress code before you pack), and the property is more remote than our other weekend getaways from DC for couples.

Still, it's a unique experience to stay in a National Historic Landmark with its own Cold War Bunker. The bunker, built to house Congress in the event of an attack, is available for tours.

Be sure to visit the indoor pool and wander the grounds, which were covered in snow during our stay. You'll find romance and elegance throughout the property.

These are certainly not the only romantic places to stay near Washington DC, but they are hotels, inns, and B&Bs that we highly recommend. Wherever you stay, we wish you a fabulous and romantic couples getaway!
