Thai Luang in Herndon

We've had delicious meals at many Thai restaurants in Northern Virginia, but our most frequent visits have been to Thai Luang in Herndon. We became regulars at Thai Luang nearly 20 years ago, shortly after we moved to the area, and it's still our favorite for takeout.

One of us is hooked on the Crispy Duck with Sweet Basil, while the other mixes it up with chef's specialties, curries and other spicy dishes. The Chicken Satay and Pad Thai are favorites of our kids, who are more spice-averse.

Entree prices are on the higher side, but portions are quite large so we always have another meal's worth of leftovers to take home. That Crispy Duck is always good for lunch the next day. We also love the Duck Noodle Soup, which makes a warming meal on a cold winter day, with leftovers to spare.

The decor is simple, but nice, and we've always received good service. The restaurant is sometimes busy on the weekends, but we have rarely had to wait for a table.

Thai Luang is in a somewhat hidden location—set back at the end of an office building on Elden Street. Turn onto Carlisle Drive, directly across from the Comfort Inn, then make an immediate left onto the access road to the office building. You'll see the lights of Thai Luang beckoning to you from the back of the lot.
