New Plaza at Tysons Corner Center is Fun and Fab

UPDATE 8/11/14: The new Shake Shack on the new Plaza near the new Tysons metro station opens today. So much delicious newness and fun!

The Silver Line is running, the weather is warm, and the fab new Plaza at Tysons Corner Center gives you an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors in a brand new space. The new plaza connects the Tysons Corner Center mall to the new Tysons Silver Line metro stop; or it will when the walkway between station and plaza is complete. The plaza is chic, entertaining, and a fun place to take a shopping break, catch a summer concert or movie, or just hang out.

If you’ve lived in Fairfax County for more than a few minutes, you’ve probably made more than one trip to the Tysons Corner Center Mall. The mall has always had solid shopping, and the choices got even better when AMC 16 movies and more stores opened in 2005. The one thing missing, until now, was an outdoor space to play.

The Plaza at Tysons Corner Center isn’t large, but it’s got a lot going on. There are plenty of nice seating options—from tables to couch groupings (with fire pits when the weather gets cold) to bench circles and a small lawn. Play is free at two ping pong tables and a giant chess board, and a Shake Shack will open soon. (Mmmm, shakes and burgers.) Kids get a new play space and lots of room to run around. You could challenge the  kids to count the number and type of bird statues scattered around the seating areas and rails.

Until construction over the walkway is complete, you’ll need to exit the Tysons Silver Line metro stop to ground level, then cross the street and enter the mall to reach the plaza. The Plaza is accessed from the second floor of the mall, through Lord & Taylor or across from the Tesla and Microsoft stores.
