DC Winter Lantern Festival, Tysons

One of the newest annual festivals in Northern Virginia, the DC Winter Lantern Festival lights up Lerner Square in Tysons with over 100 beautiful Chinese lanterns. The walk-through light show offers great photo opps plus interactive displays. Stay at Hyatt Tysons Corner and you can walk to the show.

Winter Ice Fest and Ice Carving Competition, Village at Leesburg

Artists create sculptures from huge blocks of ice. Music and treats add to the fun, and the sculptures are illuminated at dark. Allow extra time to visit downtown Leesburg or plan a Leesburg getaway and stay at the nearby Lansdowne Resort and Spa.

Chinese New Year Festival, Falls Church

The nation’s largest George Washington Birthday parade follows a one-mile route through the streets of Old Town Alexandria. At nearby Mount Vernon, special activities honor and celebrate George Washington all weekend long, with free admission on President’s Day.

African American Pioneers in Aviation and Space, Centreville

Celebrate the significant contributions African Americans have made to flight and space exploration despite the overwhelming obstacles they had to overcome. This is one of several special Family Days held at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum Udvar-Hazy Center annually. Events are sometimes online only.

Alexandria St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Alexandria

The Ballyshaners Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade is a fun family celebration that includes a classic car show, a dog show, and a fun parade. George Mason's home, Historic Gunston Hall, hosts several annual events during the year. Memorial Day Festival and Parade, Falls Church

Enjoy a day of patriotic celebrations at the annual Memorial Day Festival and Parade in Falls Church. In the morning, honor the fallen at the Memorial Day Ceremony. Later activities include a Marine Corps band concert, amusement rides, arts and crafts, food, and the big parade.

Wolf Trap Summer Blast-off!

“The President’s Own” United States Marine Band launches Wolf Trap National Park’s summer season with a program of concert band favorites and a fireworks show. The event is free, but arrive early to guarantee a spot; the park closes at capacity. There are 2 scenic Wolf Trap hikes and a beautiful picnic area to enjoy before the show.

Art in the Garden Festival, Chantilly
