These 15 fantastic Virginia day trips near Washington DC offer fun and interesting places to visit, whether you’ve got a few hours ...
Snuggle in to the redefined Ritz-Carlton in Tysons Corner for a Northern Virginia staycation surrounded by comfortable luxury. The beautiful spaces welcome and relax, while the staff and services make you feel like pampered royalty.
We last visited the hotel for business meetings years ago, so we were excited to experience the redefined Ritz-Carlton Tysons Corner on an overnight staycation. Celebrating 25 years at Tysons, the hotel undertook a top-to-bottom renovation beginning in 2014. Every room, suite, and public space has been refreshed and updated, resulting in a brighter, more modern interior. You still get the upscale vibe you expect from a Ritz-Carlton, but it’s not stuffy or all business anymore.
Decor at the Redefined Ritz-Carlton Tysons Corner
Relaxing blue and tan hues fill the redefined Ritz-Carlton Tysons—from the hall carpets, to the accent pillows and artwork in our suite. Speaking of suites: the size and luxuriousness of the two room Executive Suite makes a staycation feel like an apartment stay. The plush bed and pillows deliver a cozy nights sleep, and the full living room offers a lounging spot by day or a gathering spot for evening.
The suites are a perfect option for families who want to spread out. The couch converts to a sleep sofa, and both rooms have large, flat-screen TVs, so adults and kids get their own space. Adjoining rooms are another option for family stays, or enjoy together time in a still spacious regular guest room.
We expected luxurious robes and a marble-accented bathroom, but we didn’t expect the convenient toothpaste and toothbrush in our toiletries, perfect since one of us forgot to pack those essentials. Sometimes little things make a big difference.
The redefined Ritz-Carlton Tysons offers a range of special packages, from the adorable to the elegant. Book a Royal Camping experience for your little one, complete with tent, milk and cookies, and a stuffed friend. Focus on the bigs with the Paradise Springs Wine Experience, which includes a wine-tasting at Fairfax local Paradise Springs Winery.
Friendly design touches in the 4th floor lobby include artwork that highlights Virginia scenes. We love the painting of the Richmond Canal Walk near the reservation desk. In fact, it inspired us to plan another Richmond getaway.
Dining at Ritz-Carlton Tysons Corner
There are two dining options on property, and many more in the adjoining Tysons Galleria. We recommend lunch at Entyse Bistro, a casual, open-kitchen concept that replaced a formal dining room of earlier days.
The Bell & Evans Chicken was a standout. Rested for 24 hours in a citrus marinade, pan-seared, and finished in the oven, and served on a bed of sweet potato and brussels with pistachios and a calvados jus; it was delicious!
A collection of cold-pressed fresh juices can be ordered with or without alcohol. The Green Monster combination of cucumber vodka and “Cleanse” juice (apple, orange, green veggies, and ginger) sounded odd but tasted wonderful.
A luxury staycation deserves an indulgent finish. All of the desserts we tried were tasty, and the Double Chocolate Cake features chocolate stamped with the Ritz-Carlton logo. Pretty clever.
Guests can also enjoy a morning espresso bar, afternoon tea, drinks, and dinner at the Entyse Wine Bar and Lounge. Tysons Galleria mall offers a range of food choices from casual to elegant.
Special Experiences at the Redefined Ritz-Carlton Tysons Corner
If your staycation goal is luxury, you really should book a treatment at the nature inspired Spa (sorry kids, this one is just for the adults). Special treatments all incorporate natural ingredients. The Cherry Blossom Bliss facial was indeed blissful and included an incredible neck message that we still dream about.
Spa guests also have access to a steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, and salt water pool, plus a direct entrance to the 24-hour fitness room.
Consider upgrading to Club Level access when you book your redefined Ritz-Carlton Tysons staycation. The extra investment gives you access to a private area serving snacks, cocktails, wine, champagne, beer, and non-alcoholic drinks. On a clear day, the view reaches DC, and the National Cathedral, Washington Monument, and Capitol Building are visible. The Club Level staff will pamper you with extra attention and concierge services.
When to Plan a Luxury Staycation at Ritz-Carlton Tysons
To our mind, it’s always time for luxury and pampering. Taking a staycation is an opportunity to have fun and take a break from the routine without the cost and stress of travel.
The Ritz-Carlton Tysons Corner has no outdoor balconies or spaces, which makes it a particularly appealing escape from the heat of summer and the cold of winter. With the attached mall you can shop and dine without ever going outside.
On a beautiful spring or fall day we might miss an outdoor space. It’s a short walk or shuttle ride to the outdoor plaza (plus more shopping, dining, and movies) at Tysons Corner Mall. The Silver Line metro stop is close by, so you could easily zip into DC and play tourist for the day.
The Ritz-Carlton is a popular spot for business travelers and meetings. Weekend rates are generally lower—perfect for staycationers. Whether you’re booking a family escape, a shopping extravaganza, a special occasion celebration, or just a change of pace, the redefined Ritz-Carlton Tysons will welcome you with relaxed luxury close to home.
